I am a fully qualified teacher of English as a foreign language, French and Spanish with over 30 years experience in the British education system. I believe that total linguistic immersion in a family setup with highly individualized lessons is the most efficient and fun way to improve your English. As soon as you arrive in England, I will encourage you to communicate in English. Language learning is therefore not limited to lesson time but more formal lesson time is also important to revise key structures and grammar. In addition, you are staying full-board at my home which gives you multiple opportunities to appreciate local customs in a setting conducive to cultural exchange and the application of recent knowledge.
I will check your level before your arrival in order to prepare a suitable program. Classes include oral exercises, reading and listening comprehension, text or recording analysis, and grammar. I also encourage you to read texts adapted into English. In the spirit of the stay, other more practical activities are available. If you are hoping to prepare for an external examination, I will make sure that we are both familiar of the requirements of the examination and practice accordingly.
In addition to intensive lessons and family activities, a choice of visits and activities can be organised: The Brontë Sisters' House in Harworth, Chatsworth Castle, Castle Howard, The Medieval City of York , the seaside towns of Scarborough and Whitby, local museums (National Railway Museum, Royal Armouries etc), Tennis, climbing, horseback riding , golf or swimming. Hiking in North Yorkshire, Cinema, theatre, concerts.
Improve your English pronunciation and reduce your accent with professional coaching including phonetics, teaching of stress and linking strategies designed to help you speak clearly and confidently.
